Xavier University was established on July 6, 2013 as per the provisions of the Xavier University, Odisha Act, 2013. On 11th May 2021, the Xavier University, Odisha (Amendment) Act 2021 was passed in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, renaming Xavier University as XIM University.
History was made in October 1987 with the establishment of XIMB (Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar), XIM University’s flagship management institute which, over the past 36 years has been recognized as a premier Business School in the country. It aspires to lead the country in management education by focusing on research and innovation. Our intellectual capital rankings have been in the top five in the country consistently. In its endeavour to take up bold, necessary tasks, the New Campus of the XIM University was inaugurated on July 7, 2014. Presently it hosts twelve schools offering Doctoral, Masters and Under-graduate programmes.
The XIM University stands tall in its mission of inspiring future generation of students aspiring for excellent quality higher education. We offer a wide gamut of programs in Business Management, Human Resource Management, Rural Management, Sustainability Management, Communications, Computer Science & Engineering, Economics, Commerce, Law, Governance & Public Affairs, Human Settlements and Liberal Arts . The University aims to fulfill its mission by continuing to introduce new programs to groom visionary, competent, committed, compassionate and value-based leaders. It empowers the students with the knowledge, skills, and long-term vision that leads to innovation, service to society and growth. The University encourages the students to cultivate learning opportunities beyond the classroom, through various Student Forums. The academic programs are designed around a “learning by-doing” model that encourages extensive interaction with all components of the University’s ecosystem which serves as a starting point for evolving leadership philosophy and resilient business practices. Apart from academic activities, the co-curricular activities, sports, cultural and community activities, form important parts of the life of the students.

A unique rural intervention initiative is the School of Rural Management, committed to our mission of creating social value, meeting the changing needs of rural businesses, government and development organizations. The School of Human Resource Management is an exclusive course grooming people-sensitive HR leaders equipped to build sustainable organizations and an equitable society. With the foundation strongly laid by the Schools of Business Management, Rural Management and Human Resource Management, came the courage and strength to a new metamorphosis, leading to the creation of well-integrated courses with a common purpose.
The University hosts two unique courses of study – Sustainability Management and Urban Management, both first of their kind in the country and among the very few in the world. Both the School of Sustainability Management and the School of Human Settlements stand testament to the commitment of giving back to the country and the world through continuous innovation. The University’s School of Communications is the first state-of-the-art, high-quality media school in the State of Odisha. The School of Commerce, School of Law, Economics, Governance and Public Affairs, Computer Science and Engineering and Liberal Arts, as well as other career-oriented courses, are the educational initiatives to provide holistic and integral career-oriented undergraduate as well as postgraduate programs, fostered in a spirit of academic excellence.
RENAMING XAVIER UNIVERSITY AS
XIM UNIVERSITY
Xavier University was established on July 6, 2013. On 3rd April, 2021, the Xavier University, Odisha (Amendment) Act 2021 was passed in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, renaming Xavier University as XIM University. Thus, the Gazette Notification was published on 11th of May 2021. As per its provisions the University has its main campus in Nijigada Kurki, Harirajpur, in Puri District, and an additional campus at Xavier Square, Bhubaneswar, where the Xavier Institute of Management functions.
With the passage of time and based on the experience acquired over the past seven years, the management and Board of Governors of Xavier University, Bhubaneswar, believe that the name ‘Xavier University,’ Odisha Act, 2013 should be replaced with ‘XIM’ University, Odisha Act. The University had to be renamed to keep the ‘XIM’ brand name, which had been known in the country and around the world for 36 years since its inception in 1987. Students who receive a certificate bearing the ‘XIM’ brand name will find better career prospects in the country and abroad. The business, corporations, transformation leaders, and the growth sectors all recognize this brand. XIM has brought laurels, prestige, and honour to the state of Odisha and has served the state and the nation through its extensive network and relationships.
Currently, XIM University views itself as a distinguished university that provides quality education to top-notch students worldwide. The XIM University inherits the legacy of the 36-year-old XIM (Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar), the country’s premier, world-class B-School. XIM University’s identity is described by its ethic of ‘men and women for and with others’. Our faculty, staff, and students represent diverse faiths and identities, but we all aspire to be men and women for and with others. What else distinguishes a Jesuit XIM University? Our students are taught the value of experience, curiosity, global experiences, and ‘cura personalis’, which translates to ‘care for the whole person’. There is a strong intention to be the first to respond to society’s needs and encourage sustainable societies that motivate the state’s and country’s futures, acting as a change agent. Education for moral character, adaptability, world affirmation and faith that serves justice are all hallmarks of this philosophy.
With a small start in 1987 in management education, XIM University now has 12 schools offering doctoral, masters, and undergraduate programmes. We are committed to working relentlessly as XIM University to ensure that the world receives a high-quality, all-around development education from Odisha.
