MASTER’S PROGRAM IN URBAN MANAGEMENT AND GOVERNANCE (MBA – UMG)

Eligibility
  1. Candidates with a minimum of three-year Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in any discipline with at least 55% marks in aggregate from a recognized University can apply with a valid Admission Test score. 
  2. Candidates who have secured the 1st, 2nd or 3rd position (i.e., any of the top three ranks, at the College / Institute / University) in their undergraduate program can apply without any Admission Test score by filling the Online Application Form. A certificate from the Head of the Institution stating their rank/ position must be furnished to that effect when asked for.
  3. Candidates from any discipline and with keen interest in urban sector, and with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in their Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) program are also encouraged to apply.

All shortlisted candidates (for all categories mentioned in this section) will have to appear for a Writing Ability Test and/or Group Discussion and/or Personal Interview.

Final year degree students, who expect to complete their final examinations and other requirements for obtaining the degree by June 15, 2024, can also apply.

Admission Test

Applicants are required to take any one of the Admission Tests:

a) XAT to be conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur, on January 07, 2024, or
b) CAT to be conducted by IIMs on November 26, 2023, or

c) NMAT by GMAC to be conducted during October – December 2023, or

d) GMAT taken in 2022 or 2023, or

e) X-GMT to be conducted by XIM University on February 09, 2024.

f)  GATE taken in 2022 or 2023, or

g) CEED taken in 2023, or

h) NATA taken in 2022 or 2023, or

Applicants opting for any of the above Admission Tests will have to follow the respective  advertisements and apply in time for the test. Registering for any of the above Admission Tests is a prerequisite for applying under Eligibility category (1), if not opting for X-GMT.

Candidates who have secured the 1st, 2nd or 3rd position (i.e., any of the top three ranks, at the College / Institute / University) in their undergraduate program can apply, without any Admission Test score. Such applicants must submit a certificate from the Head of the Institution to that effect when asked for. They will, however, be required to attend the Personal Interview, if called.

Application
Applicants also have to fill up the online application form separately for XIM University program at: www.xim.edu.in . Upon successfully filling the online application form and paying the relevant application fee, the applicant will be intimated by email about the acceptance of the form.

It may be noted that besides registering for XAT/CAT/GMAT/NMAT, one has to apply (online) separately to XIM University.

Selection Process

The Institute will decide the section-wise as well as overall cut-off marks which will be used for short-listing the candidates to be called for Writing Ability Test, Group Discussion and/or Personal Interview. WAT/GD/PI will be held in Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai (if held offline). Candidates will have to meet their own travel expenses for appearing in the Interview session. The final selection will be made on the basis of the candidate's performance in the XAT/CAT/GMAT/X-GMT/NMAT/GATE/CEED/NATA as well as in the Writing Ability Test and/or Group Discussion and/or Personal Interview (which factors in the past academic record and relevant work experience). The selected candidates will be informed by mail in the month of April 2024.

Admission

The program will begin by the first week of June 2024  for the first year students. At this time the students will be given a Manual of Policies and Regulations which will be binding on them.

TWO-YEAR FULL-TIME MASTER'S PROGRAM IN URBAN MANAGEMENT AND GOVERNANCE (UMG)

The MBA-UMG is a new 2-year, full-time residential Program to prepare professionals with the knowledge and skills to develop and run sustainable and adaptive cities and city systems. It brings together the relevant knowledge, techniques and tools from the fields of Management, Urban and Regional Planning, Policy and Governance. The curriculum is designed to meet the specific management expertise required by agencies involved in the financing, development and management of cities, towns and rapidly urbanizing peripheries.

Eligibility:

Online applications can be submitted on the Xavier University website. The following categories of graduates are eligible for the

  1. Candidates who have secured the 1st, 2nd or 3rd position (i.e., any of the top three ranks) in their undergraduate program can apply directly without any Admission Test score by entering their rank information in the Xavier University Online Application Form. A certificate from the Head of the Institution stating their rank/ position must be furnished.
  2. Candidates with a three-year Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in any discipline with at least 55% marks in aggregate from a recognized University can apply with a valid Admission Test score of GATE/CEED/NATA/XMAT/CAT/XAT/NMAT as stated in the instructions in the Xavier University Online Application Form.
  3. Candidates with Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Planning, Geography (Hons.), and Economics (Hons.) with minimum 55% marks in aggregate AND candidates from other disciplines with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in their three-year Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) program are also encouraged to apply. Such candidates should write directly to xahs@xub.edu.in with their resume and Statement of Purpose (SOP).

(1) All shortlisted candidates (in all categories mentioned above) will have to appear for a Writing Ability Test and/or Personal Interview in one of the XUB Admission Centers.

(2) Final year degree students, who expect to complete their final examinations and other requirements for obtaining the degree by June 15, 2019, can also apply.

Degree: 

The Xavier University awards the MBA in Urban Management and Governance degree to students who successfully complete all curricular requirements equivalent to 111 credits, and fulfil other prescribed requirements of the MBA-UMG Program. The Degree is awarded to qualifying students in the Annual Convocation, usually in the month of March.

Students have the opportunity to specialize by selecting appropriate electives and completing a capstone project in any of the following areas:
