Based on preliminary interests, the Ph.D student may explore who are the faculty members from the school who may also be interested in the concerned area of specialization, and then can approach the concerned faculty member. The Ph.D student will need to engage with the concerned faculty member in understanding the area of specialization while she/he prepares for the domain review seminar. A candidate will be required to select his/her school and area of specialization at the time of admission which becomes the primary research area for the candidate. XIM University encourages Ph.D student to engage in multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary research based on the candidate’s’ interests and scopes of contributions which may be visible during the doctoral research journey. The guide and the thesis advisory committee are expected to facilitate the knowledge pursuit.

It is not mandatory. However, a Ph.D student will be allowed to work as a Research and Teaching Assistant (RTA) thereby assisting faculty members in their area of work. They may also be engaged in teaching if such an opportunity exists. A suitable honorarium will be paid to the Ph.D student for such engagements. All these appointments shall follow the rules and regulations specified by the University.

This is achieved through a structure that has proven to be very effective for starting and developing a research and teaching career related to the domain of specialization – a structure that comprises of rigorous course work followed by supervised dissertation research.
