GOALS OF THE PROGRAM

Ph.D (Full-Time) Program:

This program has been designed to cater to the scholarly needs of candidates who are in a full-time employment. The program is intended to prepare participants for research and teaching positions both within and outside academia. Our doctoral scholars are expected to be specialists in their respective fields and capable of generating new knowledge and be the great new thinkers for our world. The scholars are expected to develop deep understanding in the areas of research selected by them. They also get a structured exposure to a range of topics, develop various professional skills, and participate in academic and other activities.

Basic Eligibility:

Candidates need to satisfy the following criteria to be considered eligible for doctoral studies in select schools at XIM University, Bhubaneswar as indicated below. For information about the schools please visit the XIM University, Bhubaneswar homepage www.xim.edu.in. Candidates not meeting the eligibility criteria need not apply to the school in concern.

PERTAINING TO CANDIDATES HAVING A BACHELOR’S DEGREE AS THE HIGHEST DEGREE:

Candidates seeking admission to a school under XIM University after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree with Research or equivalent (BE/BTech, BSc-Agriculture and Allied Sciences etc.) should have a minimum CGPA of 7.5/10.

PERTAINING TO CANDIDATES HAVING A MASTER’S OR EQUIVALENT DEGREE:

Candidates seeking admission after a master’s or an equivalent degree need to meet the school-specific requirements as in the table below

Master’s or equivalent degree in any discipline with minimum 60% of marks in the Master’s level.
School of Human Resource Management

a. Full time Post Graduate or Master’s Degree from any AICTE / UGC approved institution in Human Resource Management / Psychology / Personnel Management / Labour Welfare / Industrial or Employment Relations / Business Management having at least 55% marks in aggregate.
OR
b. Master’s or equivalent degree and UGC NET qualified in Subjects like- Human Resource Management / Psychology / Personnel Management / Labour Welfare / Industrial or Employment Relations / Business Management having at least 55% marks in aggregate.
OR
c. Master’s Degree in any other discipline, from AICTE / UGC approved institutions, with minimum 60% of marks in aggregate.

School of Rural Management
Master's degree in any discipline or equivalent.
School of Human Settlements

Master’s Degree in any discipline. Those from the disciplines not mentioned below may have to undertake additional coursework.

 

For Ph.D- Urban Management and Governance: Master’s degree or equivalent in Business Administration / Management / Planning / Urban Design / Urban Development / Architecture / Sustainability / Geography / Public Policy / Political Science / Public Administration / Governance  / Engineering / Technology / Public Health - and all related specializations of the above.

School of Sustainability
Master’s or equivalent degree in any discipline with minimum 60% of marks in the Master’s level.
School of Commerce
Master’s or equivalent degree in any discipline with minimum 60% of marks in the Master’s level.
School of Communications
Master’s degree in Communication and Journalism / Visual Communication / Communication / Electronic Media / New media / Fine Arts / Advertising and Public Relations / Broadcast Communication / Film Studies / English language and literature, OR a professional Degree in the stream of communication declared equivalent by the corresponding statuary regulatory body.
School of Computer Science and engineering
M. Tech. / M.E. / Master Degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering / Electronics / Telecommunication / Data Science, or MBA / MS with B.Tech in Computer Science / Computer Engineering / Information Technology.
Xavier Law School
L.L.M. Degree (regular mode) from a recognized University securing an aggregate of 55% marks or its equivalent grade.
School of Governance and Public Affairs
Master’s degree in Social Science / Technology / Management / Allied Discipline or equivalent from a recognized University securing an aggregate of 55% marks or its equivalent grade.

In the above table, aggregate percentage of marks required in the Master’s (or an equivalent) level is mentioned by specific schools separately, if not mentioned for any school, then it needs to be taken as 55%. In case the score is available on a letter-grade system or grade-point system, the University expects a minimum equivalent of prescribed percentage of marks in aggregate as per the awarding University’s norms for conversion to a percentage.

How to Apply:

Applicants have to fill up the online application form separately for the Doctoral program(s) at: www.xim.edu.in. Upon successfully filling the online application form and paying the application processing fee, the applicant will receive the confirmation by email.

Selection Process:

Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their academic records and SOPs. The shortlisted candidates will be required to appear for XIM Research Aptitude Test (X-RAT), Subject Test (if applicable), Presentation, and Personal Interview as per the modes decided and communicated. Details about X-RAT is available separately on our website. Candidates who have qualified UGC NET-JRF within three years (calculated from the date of issuance of the respective scores and the last date of application to the program) will be exempted from X-RAT. However, they will take part in the other selection processes as listed above. The coursework for the selected candidates is expected to commence from June 2023.

Ph.D (Part-Time) Program:

The program draws upon Indian and global experience in doctoral education in management and various related fields. The program is also designed to serve as a venue for nurturing various academic debates concerning research. The program structure includes a significant component of research training, facilitated by both in-house and visiting researchers. Ph.D Scholars are expected to develop deep understanding in the areas of research selected by them. They also get a structured exposure to a range of management topics, develop various professional skills, and participate in the Institute’s academic activities. The Institute supports participation in academic conferences and publication of one’s work in scholarly media.
