Locus of Pursuing

Xavier School of Computer Science and Engineering, one of the constituent schools of Xavier University, Bhubaneswar offers an MTech degree in Data Science and Analytics. The course is approved by AICTE. The program is designed to educate data science leaders and help them earn a professional degree. The program features a multidisciplinary curriculum in computer science, statistics, management, and law.

If you’re interested in machine learning, data mining, or data analysis, this course introduces students to integrated blended learning, making them experts in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

The Curriculum is a blend of machine learning and programming and business-oriented subjects. The program includes an internship and a capstone project to foster interaction with the data science community and offers opportunities for applying data science knowledge.

The M. Tech students get an exposure to the techniques of Data Engineering, Big data, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and more. Students gain hands-on key technologies like Python, Table an, Hadoop, and more. Opportunities for various workshops such as SAS, Linux, Hadoop, Python, R will be available.

Objectives

M.Tech in Data Science & Analytics program emphasizes on deep knowledge and understanding of coding,  research, innovations, startups, and entrepreneurship. Students will –

  • Master the foundations of data science, statistics, and machine learning. Enhance a data analysis with applied machine learning
  • Analyze big data and make data-driven predictions through probabilistic modeling and statistical inference; identify and deploy appropriate modeling and methodologies in order to extract meaningful information for decision making
  • Develop and build machine learning algorithms to extract meaningful information from seemingly unstructured data; learn popular unsupervised learning methods, including clustering methodologies and supervised methods such as deep neural networks
  • Develop pertinent programming abilities, exemplify proficiency with statistical analysis of data, build and assess data-based models and apply data science ideas and methods to solve problems in real-world circumstances.

Eligibility for the course 

B.E/B. Tech (Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Electrical/ Electronics/Mechanical) or M. Sc. (Computer Science/ Information Technology) or MCA (with Physics and Mathematics/ Statistics at B. Sc. Level), or MBA (or equiv.) with at least 55% marks in aggregate, or equivalent, from a recognized University is required. 

Candidates with an M.Sc. Degree with a sound background in Mathematics and/or Statistics with coding knowledge can apply. Final year (qualifying degree) students who are expecting results in 2020 can also apply.

Selection process

The eligible candidates will be shortlisted based on academic credentials and/or extracurricular and/or Xavier Engineering Entrance Examination (XEEE) score and/or Statement of Purpose (SoP). The shortlisted candidates will be invited for Personal Interview leading to the final unified selection.
